VDT 1.6.1 Information

VDT 1.6.1 seems to be in good shape, we're just waiting for final approval from the OSG Validation Testbed. But during the meeting, a few comments came in:

• John Weigand reported that Chris Green had an update to the Gratia probe that needed to be dropped into the VDT. Update: Alain got it into the VDT just after the meeting, so this is done.
• Due to a miscommunication yesterday, Alain set up the cron job for the Gratia probe so that it would always be enabled (once a user runs vdt-control --on, that is.) Alain will disable this, and OSG can control the state via the questions, which they pre-answer. If they choose that the answer should be No, users's can enable the probe's cron job with the following for the Condor probe:

  > vdt-register-service --name gratia-condor --enable
  > vdt-control --on gratia-condor
  

  or the following for the PBS and LSF probes:

  > vdt-register-service --name gratia-pbs-lsf --enable
  > vdt-control --on gratia-pbs-lsf
  

  Update: Alain got this into the VDT just after the meeting.
• Alan Sill asked about GLOBUS_TCP_PORT_RANGE now that vdt-control exists. It used to be that people would set this in the xinetd settings, but running vdt-control --off will erase this setting. What should he do?
  Both the Gatekeeper and GridFTP services, which are invoked via xinetd, source the VDT's setup.sh file before running the program. You can safely edit the setup.sh file in any one of three places in order to set GLOBUS_TCP_PORT_RANGE, and it will be in the environment for the Gatekeeper and xinetd. • Alan Sill has found some problems in the configuration DRM in VDT 1.6.1, and he will send them to Alain. Hopefuly they can be fixed today.
• Michael Samidi asked if Globus bug 4571 is fixed in VDT 1.6.1. Yes, it is. You can see the list of patches we apply to Globus, and it includes a patch for this bug. Patches to Globus in VDT 1.6.1

GSI OpenSSH with PRIMA

Rob Quick asked Alan Sill about the state of a GOC ticket where he asked if the latest GSI OpenSSH works with PRIMA. Alan hasn't tested it himself, but Brian Bockelman has, therefore we can close the ticket.

Pacman running globus-job-run

Levente Hajdu from BNL/STAR asked about a problem he is having with a Globus job that installs files with Pacman from a GridFTP server. Apparently Pacman does a globus-job-run before transferring files with GridFTP, and this fails for Globus jobs since they have a limited proxy. Alain doesn't know the best workaround for this problem, but agreed to follow up with Saul Youssef, author of Pacman, about it. Update: Alain has contacted Saul and will follow through.
