Notes

"Jens" Jobmanager patches: They are in testing on the Grid3 testbed. Things are looking good, but still uncertain for LSF. We are working with Jens to resolve problems. Jens reports that Globus may be working on a better solution for the problem. It may be released soon, but we don't know which version of Globus it will go into. This are important to STAR, which has a lot of difficulty with this problem.

globus/tmp The globus/tmp directory needs 1777 permissions, and this should be fixed in the next version of the VDT.

Monalisa Monalisa needs some improvements in the next version of the VDT. In particular, we need the latest version amd we need to be able to change the permission to be the monalisa user. We may need a script to run Monalisa as a different user. Xin wondered if we should make it installed separately from the VDT-Server. Alain things that this is not necessary.

Priorities The VDT web page needs to have the priorities and plans listed more clearly.

VDT Support Web Page The VDT Support web page that shows all the active support tickets was broken. Carey promised to look into it. (And he did--it was fixed shortly after the meeting.)

Globus 2.4 How should we move to Globus 2.4? We need a transition plan, we need to understand the implications of changing (we will talk to Maarten Litmaath, who is also working to learn this). We may need to simultaneously support Globus 2.2 and 2.4 in order to make for a smooth transition. We expect most of this to happen after Supercomputing 2003.

Redhat 9 A test release of VDT for Redhat 9 was finished a week ago. LIGO will test it next week. Xin suggested that some VDT testers from Harvard may be able to test it as well, and he contacted them. We talked about what will happen as RedHat drops support. It is unclear, but we need input from VDT users.

Globus in VDT The VDT web pages do not make it sufficiently clear how the VDT folks interact with the Globus folks. We'll improve that.

Definition of VDT The definition of the VDT needs to be clarified. Right now, it is targeted at GriPhyN and iVDGL, but it needs to be developed to include PPDG. This will require input from the steering committee.

GT3 VDT will have a parallel development version of the VDT with Globus 3 in it. Right now, there are no other software packages that interact with the OGSI portions of Globus, so this VDT will really just be a re-packaging of Globus, but it will help people learn more about GT3 and will help us develop a transition plan for people.
