At the time of the meeting, we were just about ready to declare that the VDT 1.3.7 is feature complete, and a few hours later – as these notes were written – it is!
The plan is to spend the next week or so testing and fixing problems that crop up. If all goes well, we hope to release the VDT 1.3.7 on or about Monday, October 10th.
Vikram asked whether anyone had experience building new web services
to work with Globus Toolkit 4 web services. No one on the call had
done so, but we pointed Vikram at two mailing lists on the Globus
There were many questions about Globus Toolkit 4 (GT4) in the VDT 1.3.7, especially the web services components. The VDT 1.3.7 includes the GT4 pre-web services and some of the GT4 web services: WS GRAM, Reliable File Transfer (RFT), and the Delegation service. Combined, these three web services allow job submission using WS GRAM.
One follow-up question was whether pre-web services GRAM (via a gatekeeper) and WS GRAM can coexist on the same machine, and the answer is “yes”. Here are some of the Globus-related VDT packages:
VDT– the entire VDT, including GT4 pre-web services and web services
Globus– GT4 pre-web services (all client and server components)
Globus-WS– GT4 web services (client and server components)
Stuart Martin asked whether we had incorporated any of the GT4 WS tests in our own test suite. Not yet, but we hope to do so for the VDT 1.3.8. There are numerous advantages to using pre-built tests from the developers, and in fact we encourage developers to contribute tests to the VDT, but it takes time to incorporate them into our testing framework. As we only just got GT4 WS working, we did not have time to add their tests. Over the next week, we will add a few simple tests of our own just to make sure GT4 WS is working.
