Some people want to install the 32-bit version of the VDT on 64-bit architectures. There is a hack to get this to work, but it fails for some users when using the Perl libraries. This is because we distribute 32-bit Perl libraries, but a 64-bit version of Perl is compiled. Users will need to install a 32-bit Perl and have it in their path.
In VDT 1.3.9, GridFTP only logs authentications and not transfers. Two suggestions were made: First, log transfers in the standard gridftp.log file. Second, log authorizations (which are currently in the standard gridftp.log file) only in a second file, gridftp-auth.log. The reason to have them in a second log file is to have smaller logs files for tools that scour the main file for transfer information. Both of these files will be rotated. These changes will be made in VDT 1.3.10. This is VDT ticket 1395
People from OSG have expressed concern about memory usage by GUMS 1.1.0. Leigh did some testing and Tomcat grows by about 20M per day. It also increases the number of threads and database connections at a steady pace. For some users, it is hanging after about a week of uptime. OSG folks proposed going back to GUMS 1.0.1, with a patch that allows compatability with new VOMS servers, but it has similar problems. For now, OSG will probably live with GUMS 1.1.0, and people might need to restart Tomcat every so often to deal with it. We're communicating with the new maintainer of GUMS, John Hover, who is looking into the problem.
Burt remarked that compatibility between various privilege components (PRIMA, GUMS, VOMS and VOMS-Admin) is likely to continue to be a problem. We need to find ways to deal with it.
Originally, OSG asked for a new VDT by the end of January, but Burt thinks that it is likely that OSG 0.4.1 won't be released until mid-April, so a new VDT is not needed until early March. This time line is rough and not yet agreed upon by all stakeholders, so take it with a fistful of salt.
Anand reports progress with a new version of the GIP that queries dCache for dynamic storage element information. It does have an interesting possible problem: the GIP need to authenticate with dCache, and it can only use the LDAP certificate. Will people be willing to allow the GIP to authenticate with an LDAP certificate (note: this is not a proxy, but a full service certificate)? We thought that it seems reasonable as long as the GIP has read-only privileges, but other people may not agree with this.
Vikram is still having problems building PRIMA against Globus in the VDT. Alain said that the most likely problem is that Vikram didn't install an optional package that is required for building. Documentation on installing this package.
Leigh asked about the new web-services version of PRIMA. It is in VDT 1.3.9. It was briefly documented in the release notes, and the package name is PRIMA-GT4.
Leigh was concerned about VOMS-Admin URLS: when we upgraded to the new VOMS-Admin, the URL names changed, and support for redirecting the URLS wasn't added. In fact, the VDT did the redirection, but it was incorrect. We apologize for this oversight, and it has been fixed for VDT 1.3.10. This is VDT ticket 1405
