VDT 1.3.11

There are several outstanding tasks that need to be resolved before we are able to release the next version of the VDT. We have faced more problems than usual with this release. This mostly due to upgrading Globus and supporting a new platform. Some of the highlights and difficulties of this latest release include:

  1. We are still struggling with our new 64-bit Fedora Core 4 support for the VDT. (This platform was requested by LIGO.) We are experiencing seggmentation faults in OpenSSL for MyProxy, UberFTP, and PyGlobus. We have some ideas of how to fix this, but it's taking a while to solve.
  2. We are still testing our upgrade of RLS. This required us to drop support for iODBC and to use unixODBC instead.
  3. The CEMon-Client package has been upgraded to version 1.7.2. We are currently using the official binaries for the clients supplied by the developers rather than using our own builds, because we have been unable to get them to work properly. Therefore, the number of platforms for which we support the clients is limited to those supported officially by gLite. The server is in Java, so it should run everywhere.
  4. We have fixed our package of edg-mkgridpool; this script was generating a large amount of Perl warnings on certain platforms.
  5. Alain has resolved issues with our configuration scripts for GT4-Prima.
  6. We have also discovered a problem with how we are packaging our Globus tarballs. This problem has been rectified so far and we do not expect any new problems.
We hope to have a release by next week. We will keep the community informed of our progress.
