VDT 1.3.11
We are in the final testing phases of fixing little problems with this
latest VDT release. Some of the final tasks include:
- We have solved the problem with segmentation faults with our new
64-bit Fedora Core 4 release. We had to rebuild some software so that
it does not use portions of OpenSSL that are programmed in
assembly. This took a significant amount of time to track down and
fix. We have submitted a request to Globus to upgrade OpenSSL to a
newer version, which we believe will obviate this problem in the
future. In the meantime, we are using OpenSSL's C code, which might
make some operations slower.
Globus Bugzilla 4617
- Globus web service still has been problematic on a small number
of platforms. We have solved all problems except for two. One of them
we hope to have a fix for the remaining issue by the end of today. We
are discussing the other problem with the Globus RFT team, and will
hopefully have a workaround for soon.
- We have been adding small features to the CEMon configuration
process based on requests from John Weigand and the RESS team.
- We have decided to postpone support for running 32-bit binaries
on 64-bit Fedora Core 4. We will return to this problem after the
1.3.11 release because we think the main customers for FC4/64-bit
(LIGO) care only about 64-bit mode.
Again we believe we will have a release by the middle of next week. We
are thankful for the community's patience while we work through this
difficult release.
Prima
There was some light discussion between Alain Roy and Vikram Andem
about problems with building PRIMA on 64-bit Fedora Core 4. It was
decided that this will investigated after the 1.3.11 release because
LIGO is the only user of this platform combination at this point
and they do not use PRIMA in the LIGO Data Grid.
