The VDT team is working diligently behind the scenes on the latest developer release. 1.5.1. The major changes in this next release include an upgrade to Globus 4.0.3 (with patches for the GRAM auditing system), the addition of Globus' Virtual Workspaces, and the ability to do side-by-side installations for upgrades.
Ed Maros commented that the latest version of TclGlobus is coming soon and hopes to make it in time for VDT 1.5.1. The developers just need to make sure that the unit tests pass and further test gridmap support.
Users can expect VDT 1.5.1 roughly by the end of the month, although this may be bumped back due to scheduling issues.
The approximate release date for VDT 1.6.0 is December 15th. This will deployed on OSG's Integration Test Bed and eventually deployed into production in February.
Lisa Childers posed two questions for the VDT team: (1) how soon do the Globus developers need to get new development features in time for the VDT 1.6.0 release, and (2) how do members of the VDT team feel about the communication channels with Globus?
To the former, Alain Roy responded that since Globus is linked against by many packages in the VDT, that the VDT team would like the updates as soon as possible. Given the proposed timetable for the next major stable release, the VDT team would like the latest version of Globus roughly one month from now. VDT 1.6.0 will include the same toolkit components as before but with an addition of Virtual Workspaces.
As for how the VDT feels about communicating with Globus, Alain believes that the new mailing lists are nice, but established communications have been more important. Alain was recently added to the Globus security committee, which was useful..
