VDT 1.6.1 will be a fix release for the last December release 1.6.0. We are waiting for feedback from the OSG Validation Test Bed. The plan is to release early next week, depending on the reports from OSG.
Alain reports that there will be no changes to GUMS in this release and that we are using the latest version available from the developers. There has been a minor update to configure_gip to fix a problem when updating the CEMon plug-in. Other minor fixes will be documented in the release notes.
There is a newer version of CEMon available; however, this will not make it into the VDT in time for the next stable series release. It was decided between Alain and Tanya that the goal will be to have it in the VDT in time for the next major OSG release in August/September.
Alain discussed the possibility of creating a new VOMS-RS unsupported package in VDT 1.6.1. It will be marked as 'unsupported', meaning that it has not been certified by OSG or other organizations. Testing will need to be conducted to ensure that the package does not negatively affect other packages. Alan Sill kindly offered to help this the new package.
It was announced that new version of GUMS will be out in the next few months. New features include a graphical interface for configuration the component.
Caltech is concerned with the recent announcement that Fedora Core 4 will no longer be supported with legacy security patches. Currently, LIGO/Caltech is the biggest user of the FC4 packages in the VDT. Alain remarked that if LIGO gives sufficient notice ahead of time, the VDT can scramble to support the new platform that Caltech decides to adopt.
