Highlights of changes since 1.10.0
-
Added support for VOMS on newer platforms, such as RHEL 5 and Debian 4.
This required changing VOMS to use MySQL 5 instead of MySQL 4.
New Software Since 1.10.0
-
We have added LCG-Utils, a
collection of tools developed by LCG to access storage
elements. As of the initial release of VDT 1.10.1, our testing of
lcg-utils has been light, but we hope to improve our testing as we
update VDT 1.10.1 in the weeks after release. (VDT ticket 3211)
-
We have added Lotman. This
has two components. The first is a GridFTP server from GT
4.1.3. (We'll update this as new versions are released.) The
second is a plug-in called Lotman that allows you to configure
quotas for users. You can use just the new GridFTP server, or you
can use it with Lotman. More details will be provided soon.
(VDT ticket 3359)
Bug Fixes Since 1.10.0
-
Globus was patched to fix a few bugs, specifically:
- WS GRAM now removes a delegated proxy when a job finished.
- Fixed a failure that could cause PRIMA GT4 (an authorization
callout from WSGRAM to GUMS) to fail.
- Fixed parsing of signing policy errors. Some people saw these
errors in the Globus container's log file.
- Fixed a serious bug in RFT.
Detailed list of Globus patches in VDT 1.10.1
-
Fixed problem where glexec didn't install correctly on x86-64
platforms. (VDT ticket 3507)
-
We've upgraded CEMon to a new version that fixes problems people
experienced with the version from VDT 1.10.1, particularly CEMon
not reporting. We also improved the configuration of CEMon.
(VDT tickets 3481, 3488)
New Platform Support
-
We now have some minimal support for AIX 5.3.
Details
Other Changes since 1.10.0
-
For the Generic-Information-Package, added GIP_LOCATION to the environment
and put the GIP bin directory into the PATH. (VDT ticket 3497)
-
We have renamed the following packages: (VDT ticket 3496)
SRM-V1-Client → SRM-Client-Fermi
SRM-V2-Client → SRM-Client-LBNL
SRM-V2-Tester → SRM-Tester-LBNL
-
The Gratia probes have been updated:
- The Gratia probes can now collect the DN (Distinguished Name)
and FQAN (Fully Qualified Authorization Name--the "VOMS proxy"
information) from the proxy,
when available.
- The PBS/LSF probes were improved to prevent misreading an
incomplete line in the batch manager log.
- The Condor probe was updated:
- to get information on WS jobs
- to use ClassAds generated by PER_JOB_HISTORY_DIR (if available) to
avoid expensive calls to condor_history. Will fall back on
condor_history
- to facilitate "local" probes by means of a constraint
option so probes only process certain types of job.
- to avoid double-counting when information about the same
job is received from multiple sources.
- dCache / SRM probes now available (see dCache release notes)
- Minor improvements to SGE probe from Shreyas Cholia.
-
We patched voms-proxy-info to add a -dont-verify-ac option.
(VDT ticket 3493)
-
If VDT_GUMS_HOST is set in the environment at installation time. ,
it will be put into the prima-authz.conf file.
-
KX.509 is no longer installed by the OSG-CE, VDT-Client, or VDT-Gatekeeper
packages. It is still in the VDT and can be installed
separately. KX.509 is also now supported on Debian 4.
(VDT ticket 3428)
-
Globus-SGE-Setup and Globus-WS-SGE-Setup were updated with a fix for a
memory leak.
-
Syslog-ng now has two configuration scripts. One (the default)
sets up a "sender", and the other sets up a receiver. A possible
OSG plan is to encourage sites to collect logs at a central
(per-site) collector to aid in understanding what is happening at
a site. (VDT ticket 3518)
-
The OpenLDAP package, which was never much used, now only includes the
client tools and libraries, but not the server. In the VDT, it is only used
by LCG-Utils, which only depends on the libraries.
-
We made some changes to Apache to make it and packages that depend on it
easier to upgrade later. In particular, we separated our Apache and PHP
packages, so that updates to PHP do not affect Apache and therefore do not
affect installations that do not need PHP (including most of OSG). Also, we
separated the Apache configuration that is specific to other VDT packages,
so that Apache can be updated without needing to move the main Apache config
file to the side.
-
Updated the Bouncy Castle provider. This package provides some low-level
services to Java applications (especially web applications) that process
X.509 certificates. It hadn't been updated in a long time, and one other
update in this VDT release required the newer version. All web applications
running under Tomcat 5.5, which is most of them, will now use the new
provider library.
-
We now recommend the use of Pacman 3.25, the latest release of
Pacman.
