VDT 1.4.0 Release
On September 6th, 2006, the VDT team announced the release of VDT 1.4.0.
This release is nearly identical to
1.3.11, except for some bug
fixes.
Upgraded Software since 1.3.11
Bug Fixes
- (VDT Ticket 1727)
A memory leak in GUMS was fixed. This did not require an
update to GUMS, but a change in it's Axis configuration. This
was the same memory leak that was frequently discussed in Open
Science Grid.
- (VDT Ticket 2144)
PRIMA-GT4 was updated to fix a problem where it caused the GT4
container to steadily increase the number of threads it had.
- (VDT Ticket 2111)
A minor problem in vdt-system-profiler was fixed.
- (VDT Ticket 1993)
The missing gums-service command (a client tool) was added.
- (VDT Ticket 2003)
osg-info-gums-status-probe.sh (part of the
Generic Information Provider) was updated.
- (VDT Ticket 2076)
A performance problem with CEMon and the Generic Information
Provider was fixed.
- (VDT Ticket 2077)
The configuration for CEMon was fixed, and it prevents a
script from being run more frequently than needed.
- (VDT Ticket 2089)
Debuging output in SRM-V1-Client was turned off by default
Other Changes
- The recommended version of Pacman changed to
3.18.5.
- When Condor is installed, it sets HOSTALLOW_WRITE to be the
hostname of the computer you are installing on. It used to be
"*", which would let anyone in the world submit jobs to your
Condor. This new setting might be more restrictive than you
want, but you can edit it in condor/etc/condor_config.
Known Problems
- If you install Globus, you should install the
Globus-Security-Update-1 package after you install it.
More information
- If you install VOMS, you should install the
VOMS-Security-Update-1 package after you install it.
More information
-
The CEMon Server, while available for all platforms, is not tested on all
platforms. This is because the CEMon Client has not been built on all
platforms.
-
In our testing of Condor-G with the Globus pre-web services fork jobmanager,
a simple job ('echo "Hello"') occasionally failed to return
any bytes for standard out. Other tests of Condor-G passed all the time.
Making the fork job take longer by wrapping the echo command in a shell
script with a sleep(30) before and after made the problem go away. We are
still investigating the root cause of this problem, which occurred only on
some machines and only on some tests.
-
We are unable to support 32-bit installations of the VDT on SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server 9 running on Itanium processors. We advise our users to use the 64-bit version.
We will investigate the problem further for the next release.
