The VDT is hiring! We’re looking for qualified candidates to join us in creating the future of the Open Science Grid software stack.

Job Duties

The VDT team creates a software distribution used to power the Open Science Grid (OSG). The OSG’s goal is to provide state-of-art distributed computing to scientists.

The VDT team builds, packages, configures, and distributes a complex set of software that is developed by other groups. What makes the VDT interesting and challenging?

• The VDT runs on multiple platforms including a variety of Linux distributions and Mac OS X.
• We focus on distributed computing software, which is just cool stuff.
• Some of the software we build, configure, and support is surprisingly complex and interesting.
• We ship about 40 or so software packages, which is more than it sounds.
• We do daily, automated testing.
• We support users around the world, some of whom are doing really cool science.
• We write significant code to build, install, configure, and test software.
• We debug interesting software, and sometimes provide patches.

We are part of the Condor Team, which develops and maintains the Condor software. While this job will probably not involve development of Condor, there is a potential for work beyond just the VDT. Plus, you’ll be working with some really great, really smart people.

This is a full-time job.

Qualifications

We want people who are comfortable in a Linux or Unix environment. While we do most of our development in Perl, we don’t require you to know Perl before you join us, but we do hope that you have a strong background in Linux/Unix, scripting (Bash/Ruby/Python/Perl). If you are passionate about software development and are skillful in some way with Linux/Unix, you’re a good candidate for this position. We think this position is particularly suited to people with 0-5 years of relevant experience, but we’ll consider more experienced people as well.

This job requires at least a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
